At the Don & Carmen Meyer Center of Excellence, you’ll find a beautiful, inspiring environment of healing that’s home to the Avera Cancer Institute Aberdeen. The building is named in honor of Don and Carmen Meyer, and their commitment to quality cancer care in Aberdeen. The late Coach Meyer and his wife Carmen spoke extensively about the expert cancer care and access to advanced technology and expert treatment that he received at Avera.
The wall was made to honor the legendary Coach Meyer who coached the Northern State Wolves basketball team. During his years he won a career total of 923 games which was the record for most wins by a men’s basketball coach. He was know for the impact he had on a countless number of lives and the design of the wall needed to reflect that. The wall consists of 6 panels, each devoted to a different part of Coach Meyer. From his awards and accomplishments, to his views on faith, family and excellence there is a lot to learn from the memorial.
The memorial is constructed of pieces of acrylic with varying levels of standoffs. All of the panels have a subtle vinyl text overlay that contains excerpts of handwriting from his personal notebooks. Dimensional letters and spotlights were used to create more depth and a sense of warmth.
